3. Make them their own digging box – Lots of dogs love to dig. Unfortunately, they do it in areas that are off-limits, like flower beds. If your dog has this instinct down pat, you don’t need to discourage digging completely. Instead, create a dog digging area in a corner of the yard which can be made with soil or sand. You can also use a child’s sandbox and place fun items in the sand for your doggo to dig up. They will love it. If your dog has never done agility, you can get started by teaching him to jump through an ordinary hula hoop. First, lay the hoop on the ground and encourage your dog to walk near it and over it. Then, hold it upright, with one edge touching the ground, so your dog can walk through it without jumping. When he gets used to walking through, up the challenge by lifting the hoop off the ground. Your dog will feel most comfortable jumping through a hoop held at his shoulder height or lower. 5. Agility Training In all of my years of training dogs, I can say the name game is the one exercise that is not practiced enough. Many dogs have a hard time generalizing learned behaviors, so just because you teach something one place, doesn’t mean that your dog will carry that information to another. Remember that in the beginning we are first teaching our dogs to be open to receiving information and learning. Success in training your dog will depend on how well you prepare them for optimum learning opportunities.
